# MX Stage > MX Stage is a local-only AI workbench for correcting IBM Maximo / Maximo Application Suite (Manage) data with your own AI assistant (Claude Desktop, ChatGPT desktop, IBM Bob): every change is staged, diffed and approved by a human before it is written to Maximo. It is an MCP server plus a work screen in the browser, for EAM / CMMS data quality work. ## What it is for Closing the gap between IBM Maximo and Excel. After a Maximo migration, many organizations kept recording work outside Maximo (contractors' daily work reports, repair logs, maintenance star charts, purchase order lists, equipment registers), and the work orders in Maximo drifted out of date. With MX Stage, the AI assistant works out the structure of those files, even printed report forms, and the rules that link them to Maximo records even without keys (for example a daily report line matched to a work order by equipment nickname and date). Processing programs in the work screen then structure the rows, match them, turn the text into Maximo's values (failure codes, dates such as R8.5.4, nicknames such as "#1"), and create work orders for repairs that are missing from Maximo with a status that fits their dates (finished work completed, ongoing work in progress, planned work waiting for approval). The AI reads as little of the data as possible, and everything is staged for a person to review and commit. Closed work orders are kept as history by Maximo and are not changed; completed (COMP) ones can be. ## Partners MX Stage is offered through Maximo partner companies, to clean up Maximo data and accelerate their customers' growth. Partners do the tuning: they sort out the customer's Maximo data issues and set priorities, tune Skills for each project, clean up the data, then propose and build Maximo solutions on it. TSUNAGI, the developer, provides advisory at each step from field experience and keeps the tool up to date; it does not take on project work. Organizations using Maximo can ask TSUNAGI to be introduced to a partner. It is not a fit for: users without IBM Maximo / MAS; fully unattended automation (a person must approve every commit); hosted or browser-only chat (it runs on the user's PC; ChatGPT's Chat mode cannot use local MCP servers). ## How it differs from calling the Maximo REST API from an AI Several Maximo MCP servers let the AI call the REST API directly. That works for reading, but for changes nobody sees what the AI is about to write, and a wrong guess goes straight into production. In MX Stage the AI's tools cannot write to Maximo at all: the AI loads data into a staging sheet and edits it with reasons, the person sees a cell-by-cell diff and can undo any batch, and only the person presses "Commit to Maximo". MX Stage then writes one record first and lets the person check it before sending the rest; records changed elsewhere after loading are skipped and listed, and it stops on an error or a result it cannot confirm. ## Facts - Runs on the user's PC: a small local process (the "bridge") serves the work screen, speaks MCP to the AI assistant and relays requests to Maximo, so Maximo needs no CORS settings. - No MX Stage cloud, no telemetry. The PC talks to the user's Maximo and AI assistant, and otherwise only when the user chooses: update checks and downloads (GitHub, npm registry) and the optional demo data (mxstage-demo.pages.dev). A saved Maximo API key is encrypted with Windows DPAPI and not given to the browser; an unsaved one stays only in the work screen tab's memory. - Try without a Maximo: Settings → Demo downloads fictional data for three waste incineration plants (Japanese or English) and five sample Excel files, and runs a virtual Maximo inside the bridge. - Audit trail: before a commit, the work screen saves a diff report (Excel) with one row per changed cell (old value, new value, author, reason, time); after a commit, a write log (CSV). - Official AI clients: Claude Desktop (chat and Code tab), ChatGPT desktop in Codex or Work mode, Antigravity, IBM Bob. Claude Code and Codex CLI work but are not officially supported. - Requirements: Windows (macOS and Linux untested), Chrome or Edge, IBM Maximo or MAS Manage with the JSON API (/maximo/api) and an API key. - Install for Claude Desktop: download mxstage-.mcpb from https://github.com/mxstage/mxstage/releases/latest and install it in Settings → Extensions. For other assistants, give Claude Code the repository URL and say "install this". - Price: free for test environments, and free for loading, analysing and editing production data. Committing to a production Maximo needs a license: US$4,800 per production environment per year, any number of users and PCs. 14-day refunds. - Production environment = the Maximo an organization uses for day-to-day records, and an environment being prepared to replace it. Everything else (development, test, training, demo, migration rehearsal) is a test environment, even with a copy of production data. - Source: Business Source License 1.1; each version becomes Apache License 2.0 four years after release. Licensor: TSUNAGI. - MCP Registry name: io.github.mxstage/mxstage - Contact: mxstage@tsunagi.app - IBM and Maximo are trademarks of IBM.
